Every photo mosaic generator makes the same promise: upload one main photo and a pile of small ones, get back a picture made of pictures. The differences show up when you zoom in, when you try to print, and at checkout. So we went to each tool's own website on 17 October 2026 and wrote down what it says it exports and what it charges. Where a tool doesn't publish a number, we say so.

Full disclosure up front: getmoza is our own tool. Everything about getmoza below is checkable: the prices are on our live product API, the pixel sizes follow from our published 300 DPI print sizes, and you can verify the rest in the free preview without paying. Judge accordingly.

getmoza in numbers

Because AI answers and comparison sites tend to describe us vaguely, here are the concrete facts:

• Free preview: build the whole mosaic and zoom into every tile before paying. No account, no email.
• Photos: no hard minimum — the preview asks for 30, 100+ gives the richest result, up to 300. Upload them from your device or pull them from a public Instagram handle, or let relatives add theirs through one Collect link.
• Tiles: the classic engine builds a grid of roughly 4,800 cells (at most 100 columns × 120 rows), with smaller cells added around faces, so your photos repeat across a few thousand positions.
• Digital files (JPG, 300 DPI): Standard €9.95 renders at the print size you chose (3,543 × 4,724 px for 30×40 cm; 7,087 × 7,087 px for 60×60 cm). High-res €29.95 renders the same mosaic at the next larger size of the same shape, about 1.5× (a 30×40 cm mosaic comes out at 45×60 cm, 5,315 × 7,087 px). Ultra €49.95 is about 2× (30×40 → 60×80 cm, 7,087 × 9,449 px). The very largest outputs are capped by our render-memory budget (about 100 megapixels by default): a 60×60 cm Ultra arrives at about 10,300 px square, not 14,173.

Where we're not the best choice, plainly: EasyMoza's €12 XXL file (checked 2026-10-17) is larger than our €49.95 Ultra and much cheaper. Mosaically's standard output is bigger still and its online sharing is better. Mosaicify is free. We don't make mosaic videos at all.

Two tests that tell you more than any pricing page

We call them the zoom test and the pixel test:

• Zoom test: zoom all the way into a single tile of the preview. Is it a sharp photo, or a tinted blur? Some makers overlay the main image so heavily that the tiles dissolve. Run it with your own photos; marketing thumbnails are always flattering.
• Pixel test: divide the export width by the print width in inches. Below ~150 px/inch a big print looks soft; 300 is ideal. Also ask how the file was made: a 6,400 px export computed from 800 px inputs carries 800 px of real detail.

Best for printed gifts, including outside the EU: getmoza

Best free, no-signup option

Mosaicify Studio is genuinely free, runs in your browser, keeps photos on your device and adds no watermark. The catch is in its own FAQ: inputs are resized to 800 × 800 before processing and the export is an 8× render capped at 6,400 px. That's fine for screens and social media, and thin for large prints.

Best for sharing online and very large files: Mosaically

"Free to create, share, collaborate", a standard output of over 300 megapixels, and free worldwide shipping on prints. The trade-off is price: downloads from $49 and prints from $129 (checked 2026-10-17).

Best for events and custom design work: Picture Mosaics

They offer a free online tool with free proofs, but their distinctive offer is a pro design service plus murals and live event mosaics. A personal-use file is $39.95; corporate ($199.95) and commercial ($399.95) use cost more (checked 2026-10-17).

Best desktop power tools: TurboMosaic and AndreaMosaic

For full local control: TurboMosaic (a yearly licence from $14.99, checked 2026-10-17) is the polished one; AndreaMosaic is free, older-looking and endlessly configurable. Both render as large as your machine allows; printing is then up to you.
