It depends on what you need the file for. For a screen or a small print, a free in-browser tool is enough. For a print you will hang, the questions are output resolution, whether every tile stays sharp, and who produces the print. getmoza renders at 300 DPI for the ordered size and prints through a German fine-art lab; the table above lists the published limits of the other tools.
Several in-browser tools are free; check each tool's own page for its watermark and resolution rules. getmoza's preview is free and full-size on screen; paying starts only when you download the print-ready file (from €9.95) or order a print.
On getmoza, 25 photos make a mosaic, 50 to 150 different photos give the richest result, and the cap is 300. Several other tools advertise higher caps; in practice variety matters more than count because every photo is reused many times.
300 DPI at the final print size is the print-industry standard. A 60 × 60 cm print needs about 7,000 × 7,000 pixels. Tools that cap output at 6,400 px, 10 megapixels or 150 PPI are below that for anything larger than a small print.
The slider blends the original photo over the tiles so the big picture reads from a distance. It helps the overall image but softens every tile. getmoza places tiles at full strength and colour-matches them instead, so you can zoom into every tile in the preview and it stays sharp.
On getmoza the final render uses the exact framing you approved in the preview, and the preview itself is zoomable to the single tile. We state this because 'preview is not what you get' is the most common complaint in competitor reviews.
On getmoza the preview appears within minutes of upload and the digital file arrives by email minutes after payment. Prints take about two weeks including production and shipping.
Yes. getmoza runs in the browser with no app and no account; you can upload from your camera roll or type a public Instagram handle to import the tiles.
No account on getmoza. The preview keeps its own link for weeks.
On getmoza the file is €9.95 (€29.95 or €49.95 for larger print formats) and prints start at €39. Other tools' published prices are in the table: from free in-browser tools to $49 file licences and prints from $69.95 or $129.
getmoza prints through a German fine-art lab and ships worldwide; the finishes are fine-art paper, canvas, aluminium Dibond, acrylic glass and gallery frame. Some tools sell a file only and leave printing to you.

It is one of the few photo gifts that uses the whole photo collection at once and hangs on a wall rather than sitting in a drawer. Popular occasions are grandparents, anniversaries, weddings, memorials and pets.
Yes. Logos and artwork work as the main image, which is how companies use it for office walls; see the business page.
